Prof. Krishna Kant Dave, Vice Chancellor of Shri Venkateshwara University, Gajraula, Uttar Pradesh, shares an inspiring story centered around the theme of disappointment in life.

He highlights that every successful individual in the world has achieved their position only after enduring struggles and overcoming numerous challenges. Prof. Dave emphasizes that no work comes easy. He shares a story of an individual to illustrate how, in life, we often face disappointment and moments of lost hope.

An individual once found himself lost in a vast desert, desperately searching for a way out. As is characteristic of such terrain, there were no clear paths—no roads, no signs—only endless stretches of sand, making it nearly impossible to determine the right direction. Stranded in this unforgiving environment, he soon began to suffer from intense thirst. As the scorching sun grew harsher with each passing hour, his desperation for water intensified. Weakened and dehydrated, he began to fear he might not survive much longer.

Despite feeling weak and overwhelmed, he chose to keep walking in one direction, holding on to a sliver of hope. After a long, agonizing trek, he spotted a small hut in the distance. With each step, his belief grew stronger that help might be near. Though his body was giving up, his hope kept him going. As he finally reached the hut, a glimmer of hope lit up his eyes—perhaps there would be water, perhaps someone would be inside to help him. That faint possibility was enough to push him forward in search of survival.

However, as he entered the hut, there was no one inside. What he found instead was an old hand pump in the corner. Desperate for water, he began pumping with all his might—but not a single drop came out. Being in the desert, this seemed expected. Disheartened, he thought the end was near. But he didn’t lose hope. He looked around and spotted a bottle hanging beside the pump. It had some water in it. Just as he reached for it eagerly, he noticed a note tied to the bottle.

The note read:

"If you want to drink water, pour this entire bottle into the hand pump. Only then will water come out. But remember, once you are done, you must refill this bottle for the next traveler. That’s the only way to leave this place."

It leads to various thoughts in the individual's mind, such as: if he pours the water into the hand pump and no water comes out, he might die of thirst. Prof. Krishna Kant Dave explains that similarly, in life, we often encounter situations filled with uncertainty, where we face numerous ups and downs and struggle with decision-making, questioning whether we should take a particular step or not, wondering if choosing one direction might close all other doors. However, Prof. Krishna Kant Dave continues the story to highlight the importance of having faith and making courageous choices in such moments.

The individual gathered his courage and poured the water into the hand pump. As soon as he began to operate it, cold water started to flow. Prof. Krishna Kant Dave emphasizes that, similarly, in life we experience moments of immense joy when our hard work finally bears fruit. That sense of fulfillment and success mirrors the happiness felt by the man who, after taking a bold step and pouring his only bottle of water into the pump, is rewarded with the refreshing flow of cold water.

Just as the man quenched his thirst, he was reminded of a moral responsibility—to give back. Prof. Krishna Kant Dave emphasizes that, similarly, it is our duty to contribute to the society from which we receive. If we fail to give back, then our existence holds little value.

Similarly, the man refilled the water bottle and hung it back in its place. As he did so, he discovered another slip attached, which contained directions—a map to help him find his way out of the desert. Prof. Krishna Kant Dave highlights that life often presents us with such experiences, where acts of faith, perseverance, and responsibility lead us toward the path of hope and direction.

Through this story, Prof. Krishna Kant Dave conveys that when we encounter difficult situations in life, we must not lose patience. There will always be a ray of hope that inspires us to move ahead. The key is to keep progressing, taking lessons from each challenge we face.
